What to see in Grinzane Cavour
The castle of Grinzane Cavour has a long history and was once the house of Count Camillo Benso of Cavour, a leading figure in the “Risorgimento” intellectual movement that led Italy’s unification.
The count is also credited with advancing the Barolo wine-making technique, and the very cellars he once used to age his own bottles of precious nectar are now hosting the Piedmontese Regional Enoteca, an amazing showcase of outstanding local wines.
Given its unique history and beauty, in 1999 the castle was chosen as the official location for the prestigious World Alba White Truffle Auction, where the largest specimens of white truffle found in Langhe are presented to the public and auctioned.
Wine and truffle
Grinzane Cavour is one of the 11 municipalities where the Barolo wine is made, and as such it is a great staring point to get a closer look to the traditional methods of production of this noble grape.
We suggest a private wine testing tour, the best way to meet vintners, tour prestigious cellars and try excellent wine right where it is produced.
There is no better way to experience the way of life of Langhe, an amazing treat for body and soul.
Another unique opportunity is to go for a truffle hunting tour.
Get out in the woods with a professional truffle hunter and let his well-trained dog sniff the way to this hidden treasure of the local gastronomy.
A truly unforgettable experience to know more about the rich and complex food culture of Piedmont and its incredible flavours.
