What to see

La Morra, a real jewel of genuine local beauty in Italy, it’s a small traditional Langhe town famous for its colourful little churches and for the amazing Barolo wine produced in its vineyards.

La Morra dates back to Roman times, when it used to be an outpost for shepherds based in the nearby city of Alba. La Morra’s historical records are the first to mention the Barolo wine.

The central square has a beautiful tower all made of traditional red bricks that were once part of the castle that stood in the square as a fortification.

in the “Annunziata” neighbourhood you can visit the abbey of San Martino, now hosting the cellars of famous local wine maker Renato Ratti and his museum documenting the long history and evolution of the Barolo wine.

Worth a visit is also the chapel of Madonna delle Grazie, right in the middle of the famous Brunate cru vineyard. 

During a renovation British artist David Tremlett and the American Sol Lewitt painted the outside walls in distinctive bright colours, transforming the tiny church into a postcard attraction and a landmark of Langhe.
