Piedmont is the major region of Italy in the production of wine, the cultivation of grapes dates back to around 1500 BC.
It was the Roman Empire that made a great contribution to the production of wine in this region.
The territory is very hilly which leads the vines to a low yield of fruit, this greatly affects the quality of the wines produced, in total there are 46,500 hectares destined to plantations of wine grapes, almost 7% of the Italian production is harvested in this region.
The Nebbiolo wine, from which Barolo and Barbaresco are produced, is the noblest vine, but the most common wine is Barbera, which covers 35% of the production, followed by Moscato.
Monferrato is located in the southern part of Piedmont, here we can divide into three the macro areas for wine production, Asti famous all over the world for Moscato and Martini but no less for the Barbera which is classified in this province DOCG.
Monferrato Casalese and Oltre Po Pavese famous for the production of Timorasso and Cortese wines.
The rare and exceptional Nascetta, Croatina and Pelaverga grapes are absolutely not to be forgotten.
